Click on headline for story, photo(s) By Kim Goodin, Adair County High School Girls Golf Coach Special CM Sports Story The Girls Golf Team competed in the Regional Tournament at Dale Hollow Golf Course in Burkesvillem, KY on Monday, September 24. The team shot a 408 which was 17 strokes under their tournament average for the season. Ashley Goodin shot a 77 to lead the team, Abby Royse shot a 98, Hailey Taylor 115, and Rachel Phipps rounded out the scoring. Ashley Goodin qualified for the State Tournament, finished 5th place overall and also made the All Region Coaches team. The team hasn't had a qualifier since her sister, Lauren in 2006. The girls had quite a scare as Hailey Taylor was hit in the head by a golf ball as she was walking off the green to play her last hole. After being checked out by EMT personnel from Cumberland County she asked if she could finish her round. Her mother, Coach Goodin, EMT personnel, Park Ranger, teammate Abby Royse, competitors and a host of others watched her play the final hole. She stood on the tee box of that par 3 and hit the ball right on the green just like she was suppose to. The crowd clapped the entire time she was walking up the fairway. It was quite an emotional moment for everyone. Coach's Comments: I can't explain how excited I am for Ashley and how proud I am of our team. We play with composure and determination even in the toughest of situations. We had so much to be proud of today. When Hailey Taylor showed such courage and asked to finish her round it reminded me of the guts her mother, Nancy showed years ago as a basketball player. When Ashley was paired with all those good players and hung right there with them showing the mental toughness I've been looking for all season, it was awesome. Abby Royse has had a tremendous year and it is sad to see her go but I'm happy I had the opportunity to coach her. Rachel Phipps has been right in there for us and has tremendous potential, I am hoping a great senior year is ahead for her so as a coach I'm elated right now. Next Event: Ashley Goodin will be competing in the State Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club, 251 Beech Bend Road, Bowling Green, KY on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Tee times will be announced at a later date. Coach Kim Goodin This story was posted on 2012-09-24 23:27:38
