She was a native of Columbia, KY, a graduate of Columbia High School and Lindsey Wilson College. She was the widow of Ivan Knifley, Knifley, KY, and John Schneider. She was an educator and a devoted member of the United Methodist Church

Yvonne Marshall Knifley Schneider, age 84 of Somerset, KY formerly of Leesburg, Florida passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012 at The Neighborhood Skilled Nursing Facility in Somerset, KY after several months illness.

A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 2:30pmCT, at Haven Hill Cemetery, 1276 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY, with Ron Coffey officiating. Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation.

She was born in Columbia, KY on December 6, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Richard Paul and Mollie Epperson Marshall. She died Thursday, September 20, 2012, in Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, at the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

She graduated from Columbia High School in 1945, obtained an Associate in Arts degree from Lindsey Wilson College in 1947, a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1963, and a Master of Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1971.

She taught for over 31 years including schools in Auburn, KY, Carrollton, KY, Louisville, KY, Eminence, KY, Charlotte, NC, Greensboro, NC and Leesburg, Florida.

She was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg, Florida; Delta Kappa Gamma Society; Order of Eastern Star. She was an avid tennis player and ballroom dancer and taught ballroom dance classes in the Leesburg, Florida area for more than 25 years.

She married Ivan Knifley in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1979. She later married John Schneider in 1993 and he preceded her in death in 2010.

She was preceded in death by a sister Anna Marie Davis.

She is survived by:
  • One sister" Ida Catherine Marshall of Somerset, KY

  • A sister in law Louise Knifley Spires of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews

  • The caring staff and friends of The Neighborhood in Somerset, KY

  • Caregivers from Comfort Keepers of Somerset, KY

  • And special caregiver and friend, Ruby Tomlinson of Somerset, KY
