Jayne Wesley Smith Squires, Green Co., KY, (1948-2012)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summershade United Methodist Church where she was Treasurer from 1976 until 2012, Kentucky Conference Director of Lay Speaking Ministries for 8 years and currently serving. Kentucky Conference Co-Chair Board of Lay Ministry, active and held District Office in United Methodist Women, active in the Campbellsville Emmaus Community, she was a retired School Teacher for the Green County Board of Education where she worked for 27 years, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Her husband of 41 years, Billy Lucian Squires, who survives, was for many years Assistant to the President for Planned Giving at Lindsey Wilson College. Both Bill and Jayne gained many friends in Columbia and Adair County.

Mrs. Jayne Wesley Smith Squires, 63, of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Friday, September 21, 2012 at her home in Green County.

The funeral services for Mrs. Jayne Wesley Smith will be conducted at 11amCT, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Summershade Cemetery. Laura Harris, Lynda Collins, Cinda Swan, and Bro. Darrell Coffey will be officiating. Visitation is requested from 1pm-9pmCT, Monday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Tuesday until time of the funeral service.


Pallbearers: Marcus Kessler, Claudie Hancock, Larry Judd, Doug Keltner, Dick Newman and Mike Mills.

Mrs. Jayne Wesley Smith Squires of Greensburg, Green County, KY, daughter of the late Rufus B. Smith and Mattie Horne Smith, was born on Saturday, October 2, 1948 in Hazard, Perry County, KY, and departed this life on Friday, September 21, 2012 at her home in Green County. She was 63 years, 11 months, and 19 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summershade United Methodist Church where she was Treasurer from 1976 until 2012, Kentucky Conference Director of Lay Speaking Ministries for 8 years and currently serving. Kentucky Conference Co-Chair Board of Lay Ministry, active and held District Office in United Methodist Women, active in the Campbellsville Emmaus Community, she was a retired School Teacher for the Green County Board of Education where she worked for 27 years, and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mr. Billy Lucian SquiresBilly Lucian Squires, having united in marriage on May 15, 1971.

Other survivors include the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Lucian Wade and Susan Squires of Greensburg, KY

  • A daughter and son-in-law: Melinda Jayne Squires Senters and Charles Senters of Somerset, KY

  • Grandchildren: Calen Lucian Squires, Madison "Madi" Elder Squires both of Greensburg, KY; andSamuel Clay Senters, and Alexander Reid Senters both of Somerset, KY

  • Two brothers and sisters-in-law: Ronnie and Jenny Smith, and Jon Bruce and Karen Smith all of Hazard, KY

  • A brother in law and sister in law: Joe Tommy and Barbara Hodges of Greensburg, KY

  • Three nieces; two nephews

  • And a host of other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Squires was also preceded in death by a son, Jason Smith.
Memorials are suggested to the L.D. & Marie Squires Endowed Scholarship Fund, or the Summershade United Methodist Church, which can be made at the funeral home.
