Police arrest suspect in Campbellsville Graffiti case The Campbellsville Police Department initiated investigation into the vandalism of two Churches and two businesses, on Monday September 17, 2012. News from the Campbellsville, KY, Police Department At approximately 4amET Monday, September 17, 2012, Campbellsville Police Communications received a report of a male person riding a bicycle near the Magic Wok restaurant off of KY 210 and the presence of graffiti painted on the side of the building. Officer Bryon Simpson responded and initiated an investigation with the assistance of Officer Brian Morgan. The alleged perpetrator was also observed at the Walmart earlier in the morning attempting to purchase additional paint, but was refused by cashiers due to not producing proper identification for the purchase. Later Monday Morning, Officer Roger Stiles contacted the owners of Kort Physical Therapy about the graffiti painted in their sign along US 68 (West Broadway). By Monday afternoon, Officer Stiles responded to the Campbellsville Baptist Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, both located along North Central Avenue where graffiti messages were painted on both facilities. Sergio (Augusta) Poveda (Chavez), Campbellsville, KY, formerly of Ecuador, was arrested, charged with five counts of criminal mischief, and lodged in Taylor County Jail by Campbellsville Police. The Police Department is also investigating the potential connection between these incidents and the painting of graffiti on a building at Central Plaza. Security camera footage obtained from nearby businesses provided Officers with an image and facial features of the alleged perpetrator. Further investigation identified a male person as the same one in the security footage, leading Officers to arrest Sergio (Augusto) Poveda (Chavez) of Campbellsville (formerly from Ecuador). The suspect was in possession of evidence linking him to the incidents. Poveda Chavez was charged with five (5) counts of Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree - a Class A Misdemeanor and lodged in the Taylor County Jail.
