Kentucky Color - Kentucky Color Anniversary Weekend

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

Three years ago this weekend I sent in the very first Kentucky Color article to Columbia Magazine and there have been over a hundred so far. I am going to send in a few of my favorites and some of the ones that have been favorites of yours according to your comments.

Thank you Columbia Magazine for being there for our community, which I might add is without a doubt a global community.

I want to thank all Columbia Magazine's readers who make an effort to speak to me about my column. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement and most of all your friendship. - Billy Joe Fudge

Kentucky Color Anniversary: Big Sassafras at Chance

2012-09-15 - Walnut Grove RD/main street/Chance, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge. Worthy specimen: "This old sassafras could be springing eternal or pretty close to it," writes Billy Joe Fudge. "I would hazard a guess that it was a young whipper-snapper before the Chance Post Office was moved to this location. With branches broad and strong and stately standing in the yard, he is a worthy specimen for artist's brush, or poet's quill." -Billy Joe Fudge wrote in an April 29, 2010 Kentucky Color and shares today in the Anniversary Third Anniversary story of the column's history Read the column: Kentucky Color - Chance Sassafras
