Is it just me? Writer asks, fed up with: phone trees

Is anyone else fed up with phone trees, talking to machines instead of live operators?
Outrageous CM editorial rant on Music Abuse on hold follows her letter; and following that a confession about our poor phone service - CM's lack of soft skills. we're also fed up and we're not taking it anymore.

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who is tired of "phone trees"?

Am I the only one who wants to speak to a live human when I call a business?



Last year there was a lot of talk about buying American - I think it's a good idea that needs expanding. How about we buy from American companies who care enough about us to hire real people to answer their telephones?

I won't bore you with all my story - just suffice it to say that this afternoon I had to call one of those 90 day prescription drug companies about a new prescription. This company was mandated to us by our retirement plan - they told me that it was for my convenience. After listening to several minutes of their recordings, reciting my information several times I was told (by a recording) to call "Member Services" - the very same member services that I was on the phone with!

After nearly 10 minutes I did finally get to talk to a person and they are going to fill my prescription - I should have it in 9 to 11 days. I can drive to town have my prescriptions filled in any number of pharmacies in 9 to 11 MINUTES.

Well I'm off to my local pharmacy. Not to fill the prescription but to buy some aspirin for the headache I have after dealing with my drug company.

Barbara Armitage, thank you, thank you . I often think of going totally phoneless because of annoyances. The biggest annoyance I have is "music" or hold; or worst yet, their choice of radio on hold.

What an absolute, unforgettable insult! - Music abuse on hold!

Heck, you're already ticked off having to wait.

Then to have some ranting, raving loud commercial is shouted at you! It's an asinine, totally uncalled for discourtesy.

It's also contemptible to have any organization in Adair County trying to go Big Time and not have an attentive, courteous, live operator on line.

Of course, i'm a good one for talking. Our phone service is really poor. I can't run an iPhone, and I can never seem to find the thing and push the right button in time to connect.

I apologize. Sincerely.

Nobody ought to have to put up with the telephone service we offer. We are working on it. It's the biggest "friction" between the public and what we have to offer.
And I quite agree with you, Barbara Armitage: I have horror stories trying to deal with some phone companies on the phone, with one exception: I'd do business with Verizon again in a heartbeat.

The last time I had to cancel a phone with them, it was simple: they invited me back should I ever need their services again and didn't try to wear me out the way so many others did - to try to make me become a Zombie account.
