Kentucky Color - The Taming of Dug Hill. Complete now '...the taming of Dug Hill has brought this geographic icon into the 21st century without destroying its inherent mystical aura. - BILLY JOE FUDGE Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester Kentucky Division of Forestry After several months of drilling, moving, removing, blasting and reshaping, the taming of Dug Hill is complete. This reconstruction project is a great example of government working smarter to achieve much needed goals and at the same time not wasting hard-earned taxpayer money. Originally the project was designed to abandon the old roadbed and cut a new completely straight route down and through the hill which would have been roughly double the cost of this method. Thankfully, the hill and curves have been widened and straightened sufficiently to allow for safe negotiating by Semi-tractor trailers and large farm equipment while, at the same time, the taming of Dug Hill has brought this geographic icon into the 21st century without destroying its inherent mystical aura. - Billy Joe Fudge This story was posted on 2012-09-11 16:39:00
