Former Monroe Co., KY deputy dead of gunshot wounds By William Gregory, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY TOMPKINSVILLE, KY - Troopers and Detectives from Post 15 are currently on the scene of a shooting that occurred at approximately 3:15pmCT, today, August 28, 2012, on Rush Lane in Monroe County. 82-year-old Herbert Proffitt was pronounced dead at Monroe County Hospital, Tompkinsville, KY, at 4:20pmCT, the apparent victim of a gunshot wound. Further information will be released as it is made available. Proffitt was a former Monroe County Deputy Sheriff.
