Open Letter to A.W. Reed, Troy Young, ACHS Council Personal commentary of the author By Jimmy Bennett Secretary, Adair County Ag. Development Council, August 17, 2012 TO: - Alan Reed, Adair County Schools SuperintendentThe Adair County Agriculture Development Council was established in 2000 to evaluate the needs of the local agricultural economy, devise a plan that would identify programs best suited to support the county's agriculture industry, and ensure Agriculture Development funds are properly invested. The Adair County Agriculture Development Council has and will continue to be committed to the future farmers of Adair County. Evidence of this commitment can be found on the Adair County School campus with state-of-the-art cattle handling facility that was made possible through $118,350.00 of funding from the Adair County Agriculture Development Council and by additional donations by local citizens, businesses, and other agriculture organizations. These facilities provide students with opportunities in hands-on learning of safe and proper animal husbandry. While proper learning environments are a necessity for education, so are an adequate number of well-trained instructors. While surrounding counties have cut agriculture teaching positions, reduction in their programming and opportunities for students have declined also. In none of the surrounding counties can students gain hands-on training in animal husbandry, crop production, horticulture, and agriculture mechanics. The future success of Adair County agriculture-education programming in our High School will depend upon maintaining three agriculture education instructors. The Adair County Agriculture Development Council supports the Adair County FFA program and the need for three agriculture instructors. The Adair County Agriculture Development Council encourages fellow members of the agriculture industry to show their support by attending the ACHS Site-Base meeting on Monday - August 20, 2012 at 3:15pm CT in the ACHS Library, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY. s/ Jimmy Bennett, Secretary Adair County Ag.
