Tax has been surprise; outsourcing already underway 'This brings us around to the one question we ask again and again: If someone wants to buy us, they believe they can make money with Westlake Regional Hospital. If they can do it, why can't we?- PEGGY FUDGE By Peggy Fudge Personal commentary I am embarassed to admit my ignorance of laws about taxes. I pretty much whine and pay, but the hospital tax has brought a question to my mind: Just who has the right to institute a tax on a local population? It seems odd that a body of appointed members such as a hospital board can tax us. It was eye-opening to read that the banks can name a rate and request a judge to implement a tax. (Was that in the small print when the loan was made?) I am really concerned about the possible loss of jobs that will accompany the sale of the hospital. This is already being set up by the present management company-the laundry is being sent out. Can other departments really absorb the employees no longer needed in their original work area? When the hospital sells, you can expect to see this happen-to some extent-in most departments. The multi-hospital corporations are able to save money by centralizing darn near everything. This brings us around to the one question we ask again and again. If someone wants to buy us, they believe they can make money with WLH. If they can do it, why can't we? --Peggy Fudge THANK YOU!!!, Peggy Fudge: Thank you for posing the big question so clearly. Maybe the one set of people, the Adair Fiscal Court (Magistrates & CJE) who can provide the leadership to save the hospital for the community, will do so, Now. It's the challenge of two centuries, but it could be done. - EW This story was posted on 2012-08-02 06:09:01
