Being for the hospital vs. position on tax 2 separate issues

Everybody is for the hospital, writer says. But being for the tax or against it, for the purposes it is to be used for, is an entirely separate issue, Jon Halsey says
" . . . to set up a false position and then argue against it is a well honed trick of too many of our politicians today, especially those who seem to think that the voting public is ignorant and will react emotionally instead of logically." - JON HALSEY

Personal commentary

The staff at Westlake make an excellent point but one which all of us who have posted previously agree with. I haven't read any letter that proposes or even remotely suggests that the hospital is not needed.

However, to set up a false position and then argue against it is a well honed trick of too many of our politicians today, especially those who seem to think that the voting public is ignorant and will react emotionally instead of logically.

As one who has gone on record regarding the hospital crises and also as one who will sign the tax recall I resent the statement in their letter that claims: "signing a statement that says "I want our local hospital to close"!"

As with most complex and politically sensitive issues there are myriad reasons for voting one way or another and seldom do those who vote the same way do so for exactly identical reasons. In this issue there are those of us who strongly feel that just as the whole situation has been poorly managed for a number of years, the hurried solution especially with the local population being kept in the dark demands that we do whatever we can to slow down the process until some light is shed on the issue and there is some feeling of assurance that all options have been explored and exploited to the fullest.

Very few seem to have this assurance today and the continued secrecy and the proclamation that there are only three options available leads me to believe that we are rushing pell-mell into another disaster.

If the hospital is sold to a private party and the occupancy rate does not increase, what is being done to insure that a local hospital will be in our midst five years out?

If the new owners find that the debt rate continues unabated, is there some hidden clause in the undisclosed contract that holds Adair property owners liable?

These are just two of many questions on peoples minds. People, I might add that have the best interests of the community, the hospital and the hospital employees at heart and we should not be slandered as put forth in the employees letter.
