Preservation of WRH most serious situation seen in years It's about maintaining a facility that saves lives....that's the bottom line....no debate. - DOUG BEARD By Doug Beard Personal commentary The preservation of our hospital is one of the most serious situations we have seen in many years. At this point, it's not about speculative debate and misinformed dialogue. It's about maintaining a facility that saves lives....that's the bottom line....no debate. Let's be clear, this is a business situation, it has long passed being a local political situation. We all have our theories about what transpired to get us to this point but it's time to pull together as a community as resolve these issues. Other details, relative to the situation, will come out in time. It's time for successful business minds to intervene. I remember when I attended Lindsey Wilson College in the 1970's. It wasn't operated as a business, it was run by well intended people with a lack of business prowess. And then, a group of individuals with strong business knowledge took over, and we now have the successful institution that we are very proud of today. The same principles need to apply to our hospital. Columbia/Adair County is very fortunate to have many successful business people. Let's work to form a consortium of these folks, who truly know how to succeed in business and let them formulate a plan and offer constructive solutions. Elected and appointed officials are important to our way of government, but sometimes government needs to yield to those successful in business development. It has really concerned me that many of the postings regarding this situation on CM as of late are comedic, not of validity, and without a true focus on this situation. This is a serious situation and must be treated as such. Proposal for billing options, new board appointments, and other irrelevant information are not helping solve these issues. Let's concentrate on the real issues...not misinformed folly. Let's ask successful business leaders to evaluate financial solutions and make recommendations as we move forward. Be it a small tax or other financial assessments, it's too important not to explore all options. Citizens of Adair County should think of themselves as shareholders' in our hospital. While the return on investment (ROI) may not be a financial dividend, it may well pay off it a life saving situation. I would imagine that anyone who wakes in the middle of the night in medical distress, would appreciate the immediate attention of the medical team at our local hospital.
