Millerfield Ladies Quilting Circle activities running ahead of 2011

Demand is up, but the Circle, newly strengthened with two more members, is keeping up. Ova Roberts is a whiz at making tops, and another, anonymous member, is keeping up with her cutting. We've recently helped with the Gary Burton Benefit, and given two quilts to St. Judes. Quilts are being made for Mary's House, and more - it's an exciting time in our part of Adair County. (We so proud of our Neat boys). And the Circle sends thanks to everyone who has assisted with donations of money, materials, encouragement and prayers.

News from The Millerfield Community

The Millerfield Ladies Quilting Circle is running a little ahead of last year. We've given away 62 quilts as of last night, which is at the same number of quilts, but the big difference is that this year, all the quilts have been full, queen or other bigger size quilts. Last year many of the 62 quilts given away at this date were baby blankets for Kosair Children's Hospital.

Ova Roberts has been a star of the circle. She's been sewing around 4 quilt tops every week! And our new, anonymous member is cutting the squares, and staying just barely ahead of Ova!

Among the future projects: We're making quilts for Mary's House, and we're planning to do a quilt in honor of Sarah Hart and present it to the family.

We're so proud of the Neat cousins - Larry and Don - local boys who are spearheading the Mary's House drive. It's so wonderful that there are so many good people who have come from our little corner of Adair County who are doing so much good in the world.

And by the way, one of the great traditions of the BIC is that they have always been eager to help those in need, regardless of church affiliation. I'm so proud that our own congregation has a policy of letting any worthy benefit have the use of the Millerfield Fellowship Center without any charge whatever. We care - and we take care of our own and others who are in need, as Christ taught us to do.

Recently the one of our quilts was part of the benefit for Gary Burton. We were so proud that the benefit at The Millerfield Brethren in Christ Fellowship Center raised over $8,000!

We're having more and more of a demand for the quilts. We have nine ready to go out, and three of those are spoken for, which will leave us with only six quilts. We like to have 15 or more at a time, in case of an emergency.

We're growing in numbers. The newest members is one lady who wishes to remain anonymous, who joins members Linda Roberts, Glenna Bailey, Joanna Lehman, Tammy Jackson, Clestine Neat, Ova Roberts, and Glenna Bailey.

Quilts have been shipped to so many places: To Casey County, to Russell County, Adair and Taylor County, to name a few. Most were for benefits, some went directly to families in need. Anyone who would like to help the cause may contact me at 270-384-5235 or any member's number. To donate directly to our cause, donations may be made at the First National Bank, Main Street, Russell Springs, KY to: Millerfield Brethren in Christ Ladies Missionary Circle. - Linda Roberts

Two Millerfield quilts for the Wilsons for St. Jude's

2012-07-24 - Millerfield Brethren in Christ Church, 1935 Millerfield Road, 1935 Millerfield Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Roberts.
The Millerfield Ladies Quilting Circle's Clestine Neat right presented two quilts to Chris Wilson, center and his son Simon Wilson to be auctioned by Golden Rule-Wilson with the proceeds going to St. Jude's in Memphis, Tennessee, Wilson's favorite charity. The quilt on the left is a block quilt, the quilt on the right has a nine-patch pattern. We hope to give St. Jude's more next year. - Linda Roberts
