Hospital board votes 4-0 to impose tax Pending possibility of recall, the tax has been imposed By Ed Waggener The Adair County Hospital Board, sitting as the Adair County Hospital District Corporation, has just voted 4-0 to impose a 3.7 cents per each $100 of assessed property value. The funds are to pay current financial liabilities of the hospital District and Westlake Regional Hospital. All four board members, Chairman Jim Evans, and members Russell Guy Perkins, Josh Harden, and Bruce White were present and voted in the affirmative, at the 12pm noon CT, Friday, July 20, 2012 meeting. According to Adair County Judge Ann Melton, whether or not the tax is recallable will depend on a court ruling. The court and the district have agreed that an Attorney General's opinion would be useful, but, Judge Melton said, that will not be binding. In her opinion, the courts would decide whether the tax is recallable. She said that this could be the end of the matter, though citizens can form a legally constituted group, circulate a petition, and get the matter to a vote - if it is determined that the tax is in fact, recallable. According to Judge Melton, it is her understanding that a 45 day clock started with the District's vote today. If nothing is done, the tax is a done deal. Should anyone wish to initiate a recall, complete information can be obtained from the office of Adair County Clerk Sheila Blair, Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.
