Gov. Beshear in Campbellsville, KY: $746,000 water tank grant The city of Campbellsville operates the water treatment and distribution system for the city and part of Taylor County. The current system includes six water storage tanks. Built in the 1950s, two of the tanks have developed metal loss and coating failure and the Division of Water (DOW) has issued multiple warnings to the city about the tanks' poor condition. Additionally, local citizens have expressed concern about low water pressure and boil water notices. By Kerri Richardson and Terry Sebastian CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Governor Steve Beshear joined local leaders Tuesday, June 26, 2012, to announce a grant for a new water tank project at the Campbellsville Industrial Park in Taylor County. The $746,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) has been awarded to the city of Campbellsville and will go toward the design and construction of a one million gallon water storage tank and the removal of two unsafe deteriorated storage tanks in the southern portion of Taylor County. "Communities need safe, well-maintained, quality infrastructure in order to grow and thrive," said Governor Beshear. "This water infrastructure project in Campbellsville will help the area not only reach required water safety standards, but will support potential economic growth in the county." The city of Campbellsville operates the water treatment and distribution system for the city and part of Taylor County. The current system includes six water storage tanks. Built in the 1950s, two of the tanks have developed metal loss and coating failure and the Division of Water (DOW) has issued multiple warnings to the city about the tanks' poor condition. Additionally, local citizens have expressed concern about low water pressure and boil water notices. CDBG funding will support the deteriorated tanks' demolition and the construction of a new, larger storage tank to alleviate the city and county's current water distribution issues. The new one million gallon tank will replace 610,500 gallons of water storage from the old tanks and will help accommodate water needs for future growth in the area. "This new water tank project improves safety and lowers citizen concerns in Campbellsville and Taylor County," said Department for Local Government (DLG) Commissioner Tony Wilder. "Furthermore, the project's capacity will support increased business and economic development at the industrial park as well as residential growth in the surrounding area." "The one million gallon water tank will be a great benefit to our citizens and also to this region," said Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young. "This improvement in water storage and pressure has been needed for some time. We are very thankful for the funding and all the attention we have received from Governor Beshear and Commissioner Wilder" The state's CDBG program is administered by DLG and funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
