Garden Club invites public to visit Sara & Jim Sproles' showplace Everyone will meet at Trabue Russell House and caravan from there By Barbara Armitage, President Adair County Garden Club The June 28, 2012, meeting of the Adair County Garden Club will include a tour of Master Gardeners, Sara & Jim Sproles' lovely property to see the results of 3 years of cultivating Kentucky native grasses and wildflowers. Jim and Sara will introduce the various types of grasses and wildflowers and will explain the benefits they can have on Kentucky wildlife and water quality. Please join us at the Trabue House, 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, at 1pmCT, Thursday June 28, 2012 to caravan from there. Although it is hard to imagine, Kentucky was once covered with about 3 million acres of native grasses and wildflowers. These native grasses were critical in supporting the large wildlife populations present in pre-settlement days. With the arrival of Europeans came an intense agricultural impact that has resulted in a landscape that is less than desirable for both wildlife and water quality. Learn more about how we can reintroduce these beautiful native grasses and wildflowers to our landscape. The Garden Club meets at 1pmCT on the 4th Thursday of each month in a variety of locations. Each meeting is designed to expand your knowledge of gardening techniques, landscape ideas, environmental issues, natural resources, birds, wildlife and more. There are no fees or dues to be a member of the Garden Club and everyone is welcome. We are committed to making Adair County a more beautiful, safer and healthier place to live. Adair County Garden Club members take pride in our community and invite you join us and make a difference. For more information please contact Barbara Armitage at 270-250-2979. - Barbara Armitage This story was posted on 2012-06-19 11:16:39
