Flag Day is Thursday, June 14, 2012: VFW urges readiness VFW Post 6097 urges inspection of flags, and if need be, replacement of worn, tattered, frayed or faded ones before Flag Day. Post and Boy Scouts offer a proper flag disposal service By Joe Hare, Commander VFW Post 6097 Here is a reminder to everyone who is flying the American Flag, whether an individual with one at home, a business or government agency, that next Thursday, June 14, 2012 is Flag Day. Please take a look at the flag and if it is worn, tattered, frayed or faded, it would be a good time to replace it. I am often asked what is the proper way to dispose of an American Flag; to respectfully burn it is the correct way. As a service to the community, there will be a trash can sitting by the walk-in gate going into the front of the VFW Hall, 411 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, beginning Friday, June 8, 2012 until Saturday, Jun 16, 2012 If you will put your old flag in a grocery bag and drop it off in this container, in the near future we, the VFW, will be holding a flag disposal program with the Boy Scouts and we will take care of all the flags brought to us. We, as Veterans of Foreign Wars, do greatly appreciate your proper care of the flag of this great Nation. It is near and dear to our hearts, so thank you for your help. - Joe Hare, CommanderVFW Post 6097. This story was posted on 2012-06-07 09:38:25
