LWC Pitching Duo on Capital One Academic All-America Teams Derek Cape, Columbia, KY; and Daniel Pulliam, Crestwood, KY, selected to Capital One Academic All-America teams By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College TOWSON, MD - Pitchers Derek Cape and Daniel Pulliam from the Lindsey Wilson baseball team earned spots on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America College Division teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cape, a Physical Education and Health major with a 3.81 GPA, was named to the first team as one of two pitchers on the 11-member team. The senior averaged 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings as he posted an 8-2 record with a 3.36 ERA. Cape helped the Blue Raiders to a 43-16 record and berth to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Pulliam is a second-team selection after posting a 3.80 GPA as a Psychology major. The junior posted a 7-3 record on the mound with a 2.14 ERA. A first, second and third team was selected with 11 student-athletes on each team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at the current institution and be nominated by their sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. -Dan White This story was posted on 2012-05-29 15:24:07
