Blueberry growers have 5,000 s.f. warehouse undeway in Edmonton, KY Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Aaron Shapiro The Kentucky Blueberry Growers Association is pleased to announce that the first ever Blueberry Warehouse is now under construction in Edmonton, KY at 1103 West Stockton Street. The facility will be a 5,000 square foot building with a showroom and commercial kitchen in the front with a large packaging area in the back. The KBGA hopes that the warehouse will provide area blueberry growers a distribution point for their harvests and easy access to packaging and other supplies. The goal of the KBGA is to help assist blueberry growers by providing plants, helping to market the fruit, and offering growing advice to members. Our goal is "Cooperation-Not-Competition Equals Success." The Kentucky Blueberry Growers Association is preparing to host the 11th annual Kentucky Blueberry Festival on the historic downtown square in Edmonton, KY on June 15th and 16th. Everyone is invited to bring their families and come out for some fun. Also the KBGA is now offering a free class on Blueberry production for anyone who is interested in becoming a blueberry grower, to sign up for this class you can call 270-432-2601. There are 300 acres of blueberries in KY compared to 19,000 acres in Michigan. Our season is 4-6 weeks earlier. It take 600 bushes to plant an acre. Blueberries are bringing $3.50 per pound and $2.75 per pint this year. - Aaron Shapiro This story was posted on 2012-05-15 17:34:48
