Adair Co. High/ETCA Energy Team wins State! In Frankfort, KY; Wednesday, May 2, 2012: Adair County High School Energy Team once again declared state winner of the NEED Project's Youth Awards for Energy Achievement Click on headline for complete story, photo(s) By Alan W. Reed, Federal Programs/Media Relations News from the Adair County, KY, School District From biodiesel production to a district-wide Vending Miser project, to Camp Energy, students in Adair County High School's Energy Technology Academy, led by Heather Spoon, have experienced another innovative year. During a luncheon awards ceremony at the Frankfort Convention Center on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, the Adair team was recognized by the Kentucky National Energy Education Development Project at the senior level. Karen Reagor, State Director of the Kentucky NEED Project said that guidelines call for energy projects that must be planned and implemented by students to educate their peers and community about issues surrounding energy. "The actions these students take connect learning in the classroom to real world experience relating to a real world topic---energy," said Reagor. Spoon spearheads the Energy Technology Career Academy, funded by Lindsey Wilson College. Spoon had high praise for the ACHS Energy Team and noted that the Academy will receive a national award in Washington, D.C in late June. "I am so proud of these seniors! Their dedication to the projects and willingness to work hard landed these awards. I can't wait to take them to the Nation's capitol. What a great way for them to finish their high school education. They represented both Lindsey Wilson College and Adair County High School well," said Spoon. Darrell Treece, Superintendent of Adair County Schools, who was on hand with Spoon as the Adair students received the top award in the state said, "We are extremely proud of our students. They continue to do great things to bring recognition to the Adair County Schools." This is the second time the Adair County High School Energy Team has captured the state award. - Alan Reed This story was posted on 2012-05-03 10:36:16
