The store building at Creelsboro which is featured in today's Columbia Magazine is the Polston Grocery Store which was owned and operated by Jim Al and Eliza Polston.

Occasionally when I was visiting in the communities of Creelsboro and Rock House Bottom, back in the l960's, I would stop in and enjoy a bologna and cheese sandwich with a Pepsi and top it off with a Little Debbie cup cake. This store was a good place to trade (today we would say "shop" and also a good place to hear some interesting stories about the community and its residents.

After the Polstons ceased operating the store it was kept open on weekends by their son-in-law, Robert M. Bell.

The Polstons were the grandparents of Robert W. Bell of the Egypt community.

The store building is currently owned by the Polston heirs. - Paul Patton

Scenic Russell Co., KY: Old Creelsboro

2012-04-27 - KY 379, Creelsboro, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. This wonderful old building in Creelsboro, KY is weathered but appears intact enough to cut back the bushes, prop up the front porch roof, and start selling cold drinks and cutting sandwiches. The photo is taken from KY 379, which takes a sharp left by the store and takes one to the World Famous Rock House Natural Bridge. To the right, KY 1058 takes one north to Bryan and Russell Springs, KY, with many wondrous options for getting to Union Chapel, Cundiff, Wolf Creek Dam, Columbia, and the capitol of The County, Jamestown. Information on the background of this building would be greatly appreciated, as would a photo of the W.K. Irvin store, which isn't there anymore, just beyond the Utility pole in the lower right of the photo -CM. Update: Click on headline for story on the store by Bro. Paul Patton.
