KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY, arrests 2 in murder/burglary case

Sixty three year old Brenda Howard of Ebeneezer Road, Tompkinsville, Monroe County, KY, found dead, the apparent result of being beaten and stabbed. John W. Smith, 41, Dubree Road, Tompkinsville, KY, and 34 year old Chasity R. Hagan of H. Bartley Road, Summer Shade, KY, now face charges and were lodged in the Monroe County Jail, Tompkinsville, KY.

TOMPKINSVILLE, KY - On Friday, April 20, 2012 at 10:16pmCT, Post 15 received a call from Monroe County Sheriff Roger Barlowe requesting assistance with a death investigation. 63-year-old Brenda Howard of Ebenezer Road, Tompkinsville was found dead at her home by a family member who contacted local law enforcement.



The investigation by KSP Troopers and Detectives has led to the arrest of 41-year-old John W. Smith of Dubree Road in Tompkinsville, KY and 34-year-old Chasity R. Hagan of H. Bartley Road in Summer Shade, KY. Both suspects were arrested today by KSP investigators, charged with Murder and Burglary 1st Degree and lodged in the Monroe County Jail.

The victim, Brenda Howard, had been beaten and stabbed. An autopsy was performed today at the Medical Examiner's office in Louisville. Results are pending. Detective Ricky Brooks is investigating.
