LWC Baseball overpowers Brescia 18-8, wins 22nd straight NEXTLindsey Wilson Baseball at. WV Tech Lindsey Wilson Baseball closes out the regular season with a four-game series at West Virginia Tech this weekend. The first doubleheader is set to start at 2pmCT on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Linda K. Epling Stadium, 200 Stadium Drive, Beckley, WV News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - No. 11 Lindsey Wilson withstood a late rally from Brescia (Owensboro, KY) University, and erupted for nine late runs to put together an 18-8 win in seven innings on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Egnew Park. The win is the Blue Raiders' (37-10) 22nd straight, giving them the longest streak in NAIA baseball this season, breaking a tie with Tennessee Wesleyan at 21. Shortstop Leandro Perez and center fielder Manuel Alonso paced the Blue Raiders with three hits each. Reliever Jeremy Greene (3-2) picked up the win after allowing just one hit in 2-1/3 innings. Brescia (18-31) starter Tyler Edmunds (0-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits in just one inning on the mound. Center fielder Brady Flaspoehler and shortstop Jordan Robison also collected three hits each at the plate. Leading 9-2 through five innings, the Blue Raiders saw the big lead disappear as Brescia scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Looking at just a 9-8 lead, the Lindsey Wilson bats responded with a fury in the bottom half of the seventh. With the help of two Bearcat errors and five hits of their own, the Blue Raiders rallied for nine runs, ultimately bringing the game to an early run-rule ending with a 10-run lead through seven innings. The contest with a wild finish also had a wild start. The Bearcats had a hot start in the first frame, tallying two runs against Lindsey Wilson starter Matt Addis. Brescia got it done with a single by third baseman Ben Goetz that scored shortstop Jordan Robison who had doubled with one out. Later in the inning, designated hitter Matt Boyd hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score left fielder Alex Hegge who reached on a walk. While Brescia wouldn't score again until adding three late runs in the sixth inning, the Blue Raiders rallied early with eight runs in the first three innings. The first four runs off Bearcat starter Tyler Edmunds hurt the most, giving the Blue Raiders an early cushion. Shortstop Leandro Perez, center fielder Manny Alonso, and right fielder Jeff Kerian all singled in the inning, while left fielder Adam Peacock walked and second baseman Tyler Bernard hit a sacrifice fly. Lindsey Wilson continued to hurt the Bearcat pitching over the next two frames and led 8-2 through four innings. Blue Raider relievers Rob Kurtz and Lance Rose allowed the late Bearcat runs with Kurtz giving up three and Rose also allowing three to cross the plate.
