White team wins Blue-White game 14-7

News from Lindsey Wilson College

COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College football team closed out its spring practice on Saturday, April 14, 2012, with its third installment of the Blue-White Game.

Branden Cresap connected with Collin Keen in the game's final minute to lift the White Team to a 14-7 win.

"I'm pleased with the level of competition," Lindsey Wilson head football coach Chris Oliver said. "We split the offense and defense between the teams with the intention of creating an evenly matched game, and we succeeded in that effort. I thought the guys played hard and finished the spring on a high note.

"Most importantly, we stayed healthy today."

The Blue Team grabbed an early lead in the first quarter as Jake Tieken hit Willie Jones for a 56-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.

The White Team responded as Cresap threw the first of two scores on the day with a 6-yard toss to Shannan Coofer to tie the game at 7-7.

After the first quarter scoring, both team's defenses seized control of the game.

"I'm pleased with how the defense tackled today. Fundamentally we've made improvements, and holding both offenses to a combined 21 points is a good effort, even in a slightly shortened game," Oliver said. "Offensively we only turned the ball over once, but we didn't execute well on first down -- which led to some long yardage conversion situations.

"I thought the running game was solid, and I would have liked to see our offense convert one or two more scoring opportunities that were out there, but at the same time that's a credit to our defensive effort."

Cresap led the White Team on an eight-play, 49-yard drive that culminated with the hookup with Keen for the 14-7 win.

"Our guys worked hard this spring and we've improved, but we're not where we are capable of being yet," Oliver said. "I look forward to building upon this progress when we come to camp in August."

In addition to football, fans were reminded of Lindsey Wilson's 2011 accomplishments along with supporting the "Be The Match" program and taking donations for the Adair County Food Pantry. The day ended with the inaugural Lindsey Wilson College football Punt, Pass and Kick Tournament. -Chris Wells

First home game Lindsey Wilson's home-opener is scheduled for 1:30pmCT on Saturday, September 1, against Union (Barbourville, KY.) College at Blue Raider Stadium, in Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane, Columbia, KY.
