Will tour Colonel William Casey School

Kentucky's Commissioner of Education, Dr. Terry Holliday, will be visiting Adair County Schools this morning. The Commissioner will visit the district's newest school, Adair County Elementary School, followed by a tour of Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School which has been slated for replacement due to its age and condition. The visit to Adair County will wrap up with a short reception to include local media later this morning. Holliday had declared that he would visit each the state's school districts before the end of this school year. - Alan W. Reed

Dr. Holliday visits Adair County Schools

Dr. Terry Holliday
Kentucky's fifth and current Commissioner of Education, visited Adair County Schools today, Friday, March 30, 2012. After visiting Col. Wm. Casey Elementary and seeing the urgent need for a new facility there, he toured the showplace Adair County Elementary School. Above, at a well attended reception for media and school and public officials, Dr. Holliday told the gathering that he was very impressed with the overall culture of the Adair County School District, and especially, the district's commitment to the children. Dr. Holliday, a native of Belton, SC, has held Kentucky's highest educational post since 2009. He's the author of Running All the Red Lights: A Journey of System-Wide Educational Reform.

Superintendent Treece, who has announced his departure from the superintendency effective June 30, 2012, has led the local district through a major rebuilding phase which included the ACES building in which the reception was held. Sharing a common interest: The KY state budget

Adair County CJE Ann Melton and Dr. Terry Holliday discussed an issue common to both their hearts: The Kentucky State Budget, as well as well as progress in Kentucky education in general and education in Adair County, KY, specifically. Judge Melton has been an advocate for improvements in education as a cornerstone for economic advances, particularly an improved jobs picture here.

Phyllis Curry, Instructional Supervisor for the Adair County School District, had a chance to talk direct with Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday about recent changes in mandatory testing, the interpretation of the scores, and how to accurately convey comparisons of old and new data.

Kentucky School Commissioner is experienced school bus rider

Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday was chauffeured aboard an official Adair County School District Bus by Director of Student Transportation David Jones. Dr. Holliday said he was no stranger to riding school busses in previous positions as director of music and band director in North and South Carolina. He did say if he never rode another one he would not miss the experience terribly.
