LWC Women's Tennis sweeps Cumberlands News from Lindsey Wilson College WILLIAMSBURG, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College womens tennis met little resistance in a 9-0 sweep of host team University of the Cumberlands (Barbourville, KY) Wednesday, March 28, 2012. in a Mid-South Conference match. Lindsey Wilsons Diana Gerlakh and Laura Vergara beat Shelby Muff and Lindsay Collette> 8-2 while Anna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo cruised to an 8-3 win over Kaitlin Smith and Kaitlin Daugherty to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. In the No. 1-seeded doubles match, Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic -- ranked seventh in the NAIA by the ITA, outlasted Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Erin Hart 9-7 to claim the third point for the Blue Raiders. Slapeka and Milanovic improve to 11-1 with the win, including their ninth straight victory in doubles action. The win gives the Blue Raiders (10-2, 5-0 in the MSC) at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular season title with one regular season match remaining against UVa.-Wise on April 7. Lindsey Wilson also clinches the top seed in next months MSC Tournament with the win. No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson won all three doubles points but had to work in the top-seeded match. The Blue Raiders controlled the Patriots (3-10, 1-2) in singles matches two through six as Lindsey Wilson dropped just seven games in the five matches - all straight wins. Milanovic is ranked 44th in the NAIA; she claimed the decisive point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Smith to give the Blue Raiders the necessary five points for the win. Like doubles play, the best singles match came from the top-seeded match. Slapeka is ranked seventh nationally is needed three sets to dismiss No. 37-ranked Thirumalaichelvam 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in the final match of the day to secure the sweep.
