This is Cook's first national player of the week honor of his career. The NCCAA award is selected among pitchers and offensive players combined. There is not a separate award for pitchers and player of the week. Cook tossed his second straight complete-game shutout Sunday, March 18 at Tiger Field as Campbellsville blanked Pikeville 3-0 to complete a three-game series sweep of the Bears. The outing also earned him back-to-back Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. The Vallejo, CA, senior allowed just three hits in his nine innings while striking out five Bear hitters. Cook surrendered just two walks en route to his third complete game of the season. Cook improved to 4-1 this season with the win. His four wins are tied for the third most in the iMSC. Cook is also third in the conference in opponent's batting average (.191) and 10th in ERA (2.39). Of the four other nominees for the MSC award Monday, March 19, Cook was the only one to throw a complete game and was also the only one to pitch a shutout. Cook earned his first MSC award Monday, March 12 after tossing a seven-hit complete game shutout at Shawnee State University the previous weekend. He has now pitched 18 scoreless innings in response to picking up his only loss of the season March 4, 2012. In his last two outings, Cook has lowered his ERA from 4.69 to 2.39, while holding opponents to a .164 batting average in the two games combined. This is the first NCCAA award of the spring for a Campbellsville University student-athlete. This story was posted on 2012-03-28 17:20:27
