Driver loses control of car, strikes curb, pickup, Columbiana Institute Bldg.

On Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 7amCT., the Columbia Police Department responded to an injury accident on the Public Square, Columbia, KY.



The accident occurred when a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Maureen Rarey, 52, of Columbia was traveling North on Burkesville Street when she lost control of her vehicle and hit the curb on the courthouse lawn, continued on and struck a 1999 GMC Suburban driven by Cody Withers, 26, of Columbia and finally coming to rest after she struck the Columbiana Institute building.

Rarey was transported by ambulance to Westlake Regional Hospital. Withers was not injured. The accident was investigated by Columbia Police Department officer Jamie Cole, assisted by Adair County Sheriffs Deputy Aaron Rainwater.

Saturday morning excitement: Downtown Columbia, KY

There more excitement
than early morning visitors to Downtown Columbia, KY, on Saturday morning, March 24, 2012, when the 4-door Toyota Camry crashed into the front door of the Columbiana/Russell & Co. Building at the corner of the Public Square and Jamestown Street, at around 6:45amCT. The photo was taken after the driver had been taken from the scene by Adair County EMS. The Columbia Police Department investigated the incident, and was assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff's Department and Adair County Search and Rescue Team. In the center is SAR member Roger Thurman, on the right, Brandon Willis. Far left is Donnie Wall, Wall's Towing Service. Note also that the airbag has deployed. The door was boarded a little later Saturday morning.
