He was a member of Fairview Separate Baptist Church, an educator working at Lindsey Wilson College and the Adair County School System for 44 years. During his tenure he assumed the role of a teacher, principal and superintendent. He had served in the U. S. Army and was a member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #96.

Al Sullivan age 79 years of the Glensfork Community passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 5:05amCT, at Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10amCT at Fairview Separate Baptist Church Hwy 55 South in Russell County, KY. Bro. Doug Baldwin wil be the officiating clergy. Interment W. P. Campbell Cemetery, Hwy. 55 South in Russell County. Visitation after 4pmCT, Friday, March 23, 2012, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, and Saturday morning, after 6am-7amCT, and after 8amCT, at the church until time for services.

He was born on March 17, 1933 in Russell County, KY. He was the son of the late Almon and Pauline Campbell Sullivan. He died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years, 4 days.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Giles Sullivan on December 24, 2003, also preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Smith and Joyce Akers.

He is survived by the following:
  • One son: Dr. Patrick Sullivan and wife Diana of Lexington, KY

  • One daughter: Ann Hatcher and husband Keith of Jamestown, KY

  • Grandchildren: Kyle and Erin Sullivan, Chase and Dylan Hatcher

  • Two Sisters: Betty Wheat and husband O.R. of Jamestown, KY; and Geneva Collins and husband Charles of Campbellsville, KY

  • A special friend and caretaker: Jim Maggard of Columbia, KY

  • Several nieces and nephews.
