High speed chase - Adair, Russell, ends The Flatwoods, KY

UPDATED: Two police cruisers hit in chase. Driver, Christopher Benham, airlifted to UK, faces multiple charges in two counties and by Kentucky State Police, according to Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss. Chase involves Russell County Sheriff's Department, Adair County Sheriff's and Columbia City Police and Kentucky State Police. Sheriff Moss said that the fleeing vehicle, crossed the median during the chase, and left the Cumberland Parkway through the on ramp at KY 61 South, while Columbia City Police Officer Charles Greer had the Off Ramp blocked. The chase began at about 10:30pmCT and ended some 30 minutes later.

An Adair County man has been airlifted to UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY, as a result of a high speed chase through Russell and Adair Counties, and ending in the The Flatwoods, just south of the building which most recently housed the "Two Sisters' Restaurant on Wednesday night, March 14, 2012.Enroute, Christopher Benham crashed into and totalled 2 police cruisers, one an Adair County Deputy Sheriff Justin Claywell's prowler , the other a Russell County sheriff's vehicle.



Chris Benham, Columbia, KY, was apprehended after his vehicle crashed on KY 61 in Cumberland County, KY.

Benham is listed in serious condition at the UK Hospital.

He faces multiple charges from this incident in Russell, Adair, and by Kentucky State Police, according to Sheriff Moss.

The Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, has now taken over the investigation, according to Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss. - Larry Smith

Sheriffs inspect prowler struck by Chris Benham 1990 GMC Pickup

Totalled? Adair County Chief Deputy B.J. Bray, left and Sheriff Harrison Moss were inspecting Adair County Deputy Justin Claywell's cruiser, one of two hit in the high speed chase last night which ended in a crash in The Flatwoods. The vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front end and left side. It is a 2010 model, one of four new vehicles obtained with the help of a grant initiated by former Adair County Sheriff Ralph Curry. This vehicle was one of three damaged in the incident. It was towed from the scene by Lynn's Service Center, Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY.

Crossing Reeder Road before flipping 1992 GMC pickup

This was the quiet scene this morning after the end of Chris Benham's high speed chase trying to evade capture by Adair County Deputy Sheriff Justin Claywell, at the intersection of KY 61 with Reeder Road, left and Petty Road. The truck flipped and was finally removed from the middle of the at a few minutes past midnight, this morning, March 15, 2012, according to Ernie Harper, of Harper's Auto Sales & Detailing, 407 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, the towing service which towed the truck to storage from the scene.

1992 GMC Pickup which crashed, ending high speed chase

Ernie Harper owner of Harper's Auto Sales & Detailing, 407 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, pulled the 1992 GMC pickup behind him, from the scene of the crash which ended the two county flight of Christopher Benham, 32, Glens Fork, KY and ended with the truck overturning in the middle of KY 61 just south of its intersection with Reeder Road in The Flatwoods. Both passengers were airlifted from Adair County, the driver to Lexington, the passenger to Louisville, KY. The vehicle was finally removed at around 12:20amCT, this morning, Thursday, March 15, 2012, Harper said. The drivers side of the vehicle sustained even more damage.
