Bob Barnes is home from Eastern Kentucky mission

'The appreciation of these residents is unbelievable when they receive even the smallest form of help.' -BOB BARNES

By Bob Barnes

I just returned home after being gone since last Tuesday from Eastern Kentucky.

I volunteered with the Christian Appalachian project as many others did. On Saturday, we had over 200 volunteers cleaning Martin, Lawrence, Johnson and Magoffin counties.

There is so much work left to do that will take months to clean-up. The hillsides make the job much more tougher than the flat ground that was down in Alabama. As with my previous help in Alabama, the eastern Kentucky residents know where Columbia and Adair County Kentucky is located. I was more than happy to tell all about our community.

At this time I would like to thank those that sent either cash or donated items on this trip. They are: Joe and Jill Smith, Doug and Debbie White, Tommy and Sharron Edwards and Mr. and Mrs. Rickie Williams.

This impoverished area still needs help in the next months with donations of labor or goods. The appreciation of these residents is unbelievable when they receive even the smallest form of help.

I realize so many in our area sustained major damage from hail and wind the same day as their tornado. This was one reason that I did not notify many of my trip.

However, in the near future, if you are able to donate any goods or labor they would happily accept it. Besides the Red Cross, the Christian Appalachian Project has a web site, www,ChristianApp.org, that will describe how you can donate either goods or labor.

Once again, thanks Adair County! - Bob Barnes
