Big Al Owens experiences Experience Hendrix in Nashville ENTERTAINMENT: Big Al and son Wichita check in from Nashville, TN, with a rave review of The Experience Hendrix show, and with this dessert first Big Al footnote: 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience started his excursion and influence on the world while Jimi was a soldier in the US Army at Fort Campbell,Ky. Just another guitar player who found his way while drinking the water in the Bluegrass...' Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Big Al Owens, the Big Rig Trucker Entertainment review received at 4:02amCT, 2012-03-10 I don't know where to start. Last night Wichita and I found ourselves in Nashville,Tn at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (505 Deaderick Street, Nashville, TN) at the Experience Hendrix show. Scheduled guests at this show included Billy Cox, who played bass guitar for Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock. Kenny Olson who plays guitar for Kid Rock. Dweezil Zappa who is Frank Zappas son. Eric Gales who played a white right handed Fender Stratocaster guitar left handed upside down just like James Marshall Hendrix played. Keb Mo, who is a blues legend in his own right. Jonny Lang who is a guitar prodigy. Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Chicago Blues Legend Buddy Guy. There were many other very talented musicians besides these guitar virtuosos who contributed also. The set list included Hendrix classics such as Stone Free, Freedom, Little Wing, Purple Haze, Foxy Lady, All along the Watchtower, Like a Rolling Stone, Voodoo Chile, Louisiana Blues, Hey Joe, and last but not least Red House. Jimi Hendrix was a very talented musical influence to many guitarists who died way too young from a drug overdose. Tonight, his music was played by legends in their own right and so similar I could have sworn Jimi was onstage with them. Wichita is 15 and he was really impressed with tonight's performance. Buddy Guy really got his attention with his impressive work. Without Buddy Guy, Chicago would not have had the Blues impact that it has had over the last century, starting with Robert Johnson in the early 1900's. The Delta blues was probably the single most influence on modern day country and Rock n roll. The performance started at 8pm and did not finish until 11 pm. I have included some photos that I could not believe until I pinched myself and left several welts on my tender skin. Wichita and I had the lucky opportunity to meet almost every single performer after the show and before they headed out of Nashville down that long stretch of highway on I-24 and over Monteagle Mountain to Atlanta, GA, for another show tomorrow night. Those of you who are music fans will appreciate the contribution that these artists have made in their lifetimes to music and also the tribute to James Marshall Hendrix which has changed the musical landscape as well. I hope you appreciate how much I was impressed by this show and the opportunity to shake hands with some of the finest guitarists to ever play an electric guitar. One last note, The Jimi Hendrix Experience started his excursion and influence on the world while Jimi was a soldier in the US Army at Fort Campbell, KY. Just another guitar player who found his way while drinking the water in the Bluegrass.... - Big Al This story was posted on 2012-03-10 04:31:56
