Michelle Young had perfect vantage point to watch storms

Hailstorm of March 2, 2012: Observers saw what looked like 'a Wall of Rain' as devastating hailstorm raced eastward along the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway from Metcalfe, through Adair County, and on into Russell

Michelle Young of the Milltown community in Adair County watched the storms move from high on Milltown Hill on KY 61 north of Columbia last night.

She had gone to be close enough to the storm shelter at Jackie Chapmans' but couldn't resist watching the hailstorm move along the Louie B. Nunn/Cumberland Parkway to her south and the storms over Green County.

"We watched the what looked like a 'Wall of Rain' moving east along the parkway. It came fast," she said. 'It was really moving. We watched it come out of Metcalfe County and across Adair County, on in to Russell."

She said they could see the storms, north, over Green County, too. "We thought," she said, "that people would think we were crazy, out there on the hill watching the storm, but it was just too interesting not to. And we were close enough to the storm shelter to get out of the way if we saw something headed our way."

In real life, when she's not an amateur storm chaser, Michelle Young works at Betty's OK County Cooking restaurant.
