COLUMBIA, KY - Fresh off a 31-3 record and first trip to the NAIA National Championship, the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team has signed five student-athletes to an NAIA scholarship, Blue Raider head coach Andy Cavins announced on Tuesday, February 14, 2012.

The list of signees who will join Lindsey Wilson for the 2012 season includes Courtney Doyle (Murrieta, CA), Kristi Hager (Denton, TX), Kala Meservey (Yucaipa, CA.), Kailey Moorhead (Wolfforth, TX) and Kellie Ranney (Louisville, KY)

Doyle is a 5-11 outside hitter who played at Murrieta Valley High School and also club volleyball in California for 951Elite. As a senior Murrieta Valley finished second in its league and Doyle was named First Team All-League, First Team All-Valley and was the Nighthawk Classic Most Valuable Player.

Doyle tallied 312 kills as a senior while also leading the team in digs. Played for the elite club team all five years she was a member of the club.

The atmosphere around Lindsey Wilson's campus and options for majors influenced Doyle to sign.

"I really liked the whole atmosphere on campus, it felt like a good fit for me," said Doyle. "Also, I really like all the options they have for future careers and different subjects you can major in."

Cavins sees Doyle helping out the Blue Raiders in multiple areas.

"Courtney possesses one of the more versatile skill sets of any athlete in our program," said Cavins. "She has the ability to play all three positions on the front row and is also a remarkable defender. Her length, combined with her jumping ability, will make her an important asset from the start."Hager is a 5-3 defensive specialist and libero who most recently played two seasons at the New Mexico Military Institute. Prior to that stint, Hager played prep volleyball at Guyer High School in Denton, Texas.

As a senior at Guyer, Hager was the District 5-AAAA Libero of the Year and the All-Area Defensive Player of the Year. In junior college, Hager was a two-time WJCAA All-Conference Libero/DS.

Cavins is excited about Hager's ability to make the team better, even if is only for a short period of time.

"Kristi only has one year of eligibility remaining, but we expect her to make an enormous impact in that time," said Cavins. "She has been a dominant libero at every level and we fully expect her to be one of the better defenders in the Mid-South Conference."

Meservey is a 5-9 outside hitter out of Yucaipa High School who also played for the 951Elite club. At Yucaipa, Meservey was First Team All-CBL as a senior and was named best defensive player as a junior and senior.

Finished high-school career at Yucaipa with 221 kills as a senior, as well as 44 aces, 10 blocks and 228 digs.

Meservey looks forward to getting on campus and competing collegiately in a new part of the country.

"The second I stepped on campus it felt like my home away from home," said Meservey. Every staff member on campus was really nice and seemed like they would be there for me if I need it. It's something very different from California, but I know I'll like it."Not only is the high flyer another versatile player, Cavins is glad to have a young player coming in with such good knowledge of the game.

"Kala is another versatile outside hitter that can impact a match in numerous ways," said Cavins. "Her ability to go line and use the block shows her advanced understanding of the game. Another high flyer, we expect her to compete for time immediately on the outside and defensively. She also has an arsenal of lethal serves."

Moorhead is a 5-8 middle blocker, also out of the New Mexico Military Institute. In two years at New Mexico, Moorhead registered 640 kills and 196 blocks to be named NJCAA First Team All-Conference both seasons.

Cavins looks forward to utilizing Moorhead's incredible leaping ability to help defend in the MSC."Kailey is blessed with the best vertical in our program," said Cavins. "As a middle hitter she has the athleticism we desire to run an extremely fast offense. She had high success at the JUCO level and will continue where Kayla Koerber left off and provide instant leadership both on and off the court."

Ranney is a 5-1 defensive specialist out of Male High School and the Union Volleyball Club. Named All-Region and All-District as a senior, Ranney was also named an AAU All-Star in 2009 while playing with Union.

Cavins sees Ranney eventually becoming one of the team's vocal leaders after coming in from one of Kentucky's best club and high-school programs.

"Kellie is coming to us from one of the best high school and club programs in the state," said Cavins. "She has all the necessary athletic tools to be a successful defensive player, but she also possesses all the intangibles you look for in a student-athlete. She's a great leader, very vocal and constant worker. She will succeed at any role we ask her to fill."
