Adair Co., KY, gun purchase negotiation leads to shooting. death Edward Stickel, 42, is dead. No charges filed, pending completion of investigation, autopsy, and Grand Jury Hearing. Incident occurs on Poplar Bend Road, off Corbin's Bend Road, near Green River Lake in Adair County, KY., about 8.5 miles from Downtown Columbia, KY. Obituary/Memorial Service: Eddie Stickel, Taylor County, KY (1969-2012) By TFC Billy Gregory, Public Affairs Officer Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY COLUMBIA, KY - Post 15 was contacted by the Adair County, KY, dispatch on Saturday, February 4. 2012, around 9pmCT, to request assistance with the shooting death of 42-year-old Edward Stickel. The incident took place at the residence of 60-year-old Ralph Mercer at 156 Poplar Court in Columbia, KY. Stickel was at the Mercer residence discussing the purchase of a firearm that led to a disagreement. Stickel allegedly pointed a gun at Mercer, who then fired one round from a gun in his possession, striking Stickel in the chest. Mercer then called 911 to report the incident. Stickel was pronounced dead at the scene. Charges have not been filed at this time pending the completion of the investigation and a Grand Jury hearing. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today at the Medical Examiner's office in Louisville. Detective Russell Decker is investigating.
