No. 23 Pikeville gets by No. 8 Lindsey Wilson Men's Basketball By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College PIKEVILLE, KY- Andrew Young's hook shot with under five seconds to play put 23rd ranked University of Pikeville (KY.) up 71-70, while No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College's Justin Archie had a jumper miss at the buzzer to give the Bears the win on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at the East Kentucky Exposition Center. Young finished with a game-high 25 points and was backed up by Trevor Setty with 18 and Chris McHenry tallying 10, including a late 3-pointer to tie the game. Chase Cox paced the Blue Raiders with a career-high 23 points on a 7-of-11 performance from behind the arc. The school record at Lindsey Wilson is eight 3-pointers in a single contest. Cox was joined in double figures by Chase Spreen with 17 points and Wes Hanspard tallied 13. Both teams put on a shooting clinic as Pikeville clipped the nets for a 55.3 percent field-goal mark and Lindsey Wilson hit at 51.9 percent. But it was the Bears that improve to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-South Conference, while Lindsey Wilson is now 15-6 overall and 7-3 in the MSC after back-to-back league losses. The Blue Raiders are still tied with Georgetown (KY) for first place in the MSC after Campbellsville (KY) knocked off the Tigers earlier in the day. Led by Cox's nearly unconscious effort from deep, the Blue Raiders finished shooting 52.4 percent from behind the arc, but the Bears were too much to handle on the glass, leading 30-21 for multiple second-chance baskets. Lindsey Wilson led by double digits in the second half but Pikeville clawed away and tied the game on McHenry's late 3-pointer. After a few missed free throws down the stretch, the Blue Raiders allowed the Bears a chance to win the game underneath their basket which they connected on with the Young layup. Archie took the ensuing inbounds pass by himself into the paint near the free-throw line and had his shot hit off the rim and into the hands of a Pikeville player to seal the win. Pikeville's 10-of-13 showing from the stripe, compared to 7-of-12 by the Blue Raiders proved to be the difference in the end.
