By Denise Pyles Grant writes:
Monday afternoon, December 5, 2011, the Adair County Middle School Jr. Beta Club paid a visit to the Adair County Food Pantry, 203 S. Monroe Street, Columbia, KY, located behind the Columbia Methodist Church. The club had sponsored a school wide food drive last week in hopes of replenishing the shelves of the food pantry after the Thanksgiving holiday in preparation for Christmas.

The student body at ACMS donated almost 400 items, which was carried in and put in the proper places on the shelves by Beta members. They then listened to Mrs. Stephanie Long, director of the pantry, as she explained the services offered by the facility. Students were surprised to realize that over 300 families are served through the operation that functions purely by donations from the community and the Feed America program.

The students volunteered their time and efforts as a service project for the local community in order to satisfy Beta club membership requirements. The association is an academic honor club that fosters leadership through service to others.

Members who participated are:

Coby Taylor, Joshua Grant, Will Myers, Ty Hodges, Landon Herren, Isaac Carter, Cole Schmidt, Noah Ollery, Whitney Turner, Jessica Simpson, Abby Kenyon, Kayla Garrison, Amber Curry, Keisha Abrell, Kynadie Hancock, Holly Pyles, Tori Atkins, Kaitlyn Bryant, Michaela Watson, Lauren Talley, Kaitlyn Grant, Tiffany Appleby, Breanna Antone, Linsey Grant, Destiny Kinnett, Brittney Green, Kieren Ussery, Courtney Green, Jeremy Wall, Jesse Stotts, Dylan Pendleton, Easton Turner, Weston Stone, Jameson Miller, Cole Cooper, Trevor Cowan, Nathaniel Franklin, Shelby Hatcher, Austin Hatcher, Kia Miller, Madelyn Loy.
