Baseball fans, alumni can buy seats for Tiger Field

Goal is to add 200 seats to what is considered one of the premiere NAIA baseball parks in the nation

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University baseball is preparing for its next facility renovation and is giving alumni and fans a chance to be part of Tiger Field's legacy. A new fund-raising campaign is underway to bring 300-plus traditional box seats to Tiger Field before the 2012 season.

"Tiger Field is already one of the premiere NAIA baseball fields in the nation, and we are now in a vital phase to make it even better," said Beauford Sanders, CU head baseball coach. "I believe our former players will respond as they become aware of this effort. With this addition our community and region will also be impacted, with fan-friendly seating for high school, American Legion and various summer teams, which use our facilities."

The Tiger baseball staff and the Big Maroon Club have a short term goal of 200 seats to begin filling the grandstands of Tiger Field with a capacity 317 chairs. The starting goal of 200 seats will require $30,000, with an overall $48,000 needed to reach capacity.

Stadium seats are being sold in three packages: the Single, Double and Home Run. The single is one stadium seat with an engraved plate for $150. The Double is two seats located together, each engraved, for $280. A Home Run is larger than a grand slam, providing five seats, all engraved, located together for $700.

The stadium seats will be located atop the cement stadium seating area located behind home plate and down the third base side, which was added in 2006. The seats are one of many facility improvements in the past decade for Tiger baseball, beginning with new offices, locker room and weight room in the Hawkins Athletic Complex in 2003, followed by the addition of an indoor practice facility and numerous field upgrades.

In January 2010, lights were installed and the Tigers played their first-ever home night game April 20, 2010. The continued renovations have helped CU host the Mid-South Conference Baseball Tournament in both 2010 and 2011 and make the venue ideal for future NAIA Opening Round Tournament games.

"With the recent addition of lighting, the baseball facility at Campbellsville University has become one of the finest in the Mid-South Conference. The new seating will definitely make it one of the very best facilities in the region," said Chuck Vaughn, director of the Big Maroon Club. "It is our hope that many former baseball players and other friends of Tiger baseball will join us in this effort to take our baseball program to a new level." -CHRIS MEGGINSON
