Mr. Aaron Thomas Davis, formerly of Cumberland Co., KY (1923-2011)

He was a native of the Bow Community, and the head of a distinguished family. He was a Marine veteran who was on Iwo Jima during World War II, served in the Veterans Administration beginning with the Kennedy Administration, and served as Administrator for Hospitals and Nursing Homes in Chicago, Florida, and Kentucky, including Adair County, KY. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a past member of the Lindsey Wilson Board of Trustees, and a member of Tompkinsville First United Methodist Church

Mr. Aaron Thomas Davis, age 88, of Tompkinsville, KY, formerly of Cumberland Co., KY, passed away Friday December 2, 2011 at The Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Columbia, KY. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery with Military Honors performed by The United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends after 5pmCT on Saturday.



Mr. Aaron Thomas Davis, formerly of Cumberland Co., KY (1923-2011)

He was born on Tuesday July 24, 1923 in the Bow Community of Cumberland County, Kentucky. He was the son of George Ira "G.I." and Clancy Vaughn Davis. He died Friday, December 2, 2011, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 7 days.

He was a member of the Tompkinsville First United Methodist Church, A U.S. Marine Veteran of World War Two, having attained the rank of Corporal, served in the First Invasion wave to hit the beach at Iwo Jima, was in sight of both historic flag raisings at Mount Suribachi and was in the Active Army Reserve during the Cold War. He received his M.B.A. at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Beginning with The Kennedy Administration he was with The Veterans Administration and he was a Liaison for the Veterans Administration Bureau of the Budget. He had served on the Faculty of The University of Iowa, served as Administrator for Hospitals and Nursing Homes in Chicago, Florida and Kentucky, and a consultant in this field.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Past Secretary of The Kentucky Hospital Association, Past member of The Board of Trustees at Lindsey Wilson College. He loved his birthplace and maintained a family farm there until his death.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora Olive Williams Davis, his sisters, Inis Davis Smith and Ineese Davis Bruton.

He is survived by the following:
  • His sons: Judge A. Thomas Davis of Tompkinsville, KY; and Dr. Gary W. (and Dr. Deborah) Davis of Jeffersonville, Indiana

  • His brother: Weldon "Corky" (and Molly) Davis of Burkesville, KY

  • Grandchildren: Susan Dodge, Ryan Thomas Davis and Kara Davis

  • Great-Grandson: Paul Merryweather
