Columbia Woman's Club Home Tour a special event this year Three of South Central Kentucky's loveliest homes + one of Lindsey Wilson College's most most impressive additions, the Goodin Center, are on the tour this year Click on headline for story with photos By Mary Ann Loy, Ginny Heath, and Yvonne Kolbenschlag The Columbia Woman's Club is most appreciative of homeowners and Lindsey Wilson College for the gracious hospitality shown by opening the following for the Home Tour. Tickets are only $5.00 for all four places and they can be purchased at the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce Building or at any house on tour. Buy a ticket at one place and bring it with you to have it validated at the next. Money goes toward a scholarship and for other community needs. The event is Sunday, December 4, 2011, 1pm-4pmCT. Places do not need to be visited in the following order: Julia Thompson's home at 307 Guardian Street as well as a number of the houses along that street were built around 1910 to house teachers and students at Columbia's first public graded and high school built in 1909. At that time this road was dirt - as were many roads - making transportation difficult. Rooming near the school was a big help and many students boarded in homes nearby. For most of the 20th century this was the home of Aileen Keen and her parents. Since Ms. Thompson purchased the home in 2010, she has retained the charm of its early period while adding important newer elements.Christmas visitors will find her music room has become a winter carnival scene, full of Ferris wheels, teacup rides, surrounded by a model train and a collection of angels. The adjoining living room with its soft pallet provides a cozy setting for family antiques. Primary colors dominate the kitchen which is just steps away from her favorite spot nine months of the year - a large back porch. But when the weather turns cool, there are beautiful family quilts throughout the home to warm body and soul. Shaun and Ashley Cozart will be enjoying their first Christmas in their new home at 150 Winners Circle. The modern home was built in 2003 and overlooks Russell Creek. The living room and three decks on various levels offer a beautiful view of the creek during any season of the year. This house with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths has been completely redecorated during the past year. Windows along the front of the house are fitted with plantation shutters. The large eat-in kitchen features granite counter tops, plenty of cabinet space, and a large island to provide ample work space. An exposed tin roof ceiling covers the kitchen and dining area. A spiral stairway leads up from the kitchen/dining area to a cozy loft bedroom. Shaun's mother, Terry Cozart, and his aunt, Aleta Burgess, both from Nashville, TN helped the couple decorate the house for the holidays. The Dr. Robert and Carol Goodin Nursing and Counseling Center at Lindsey Wilson College is new and up to date in every way to educate future health care providers. Guides will assist along the way as you enter from the front by the dining center parking lot. On a Sunday afternoon there should be plenty of parking space. Equipment will be explained and there will be demonstrations to enable visitors to understand the latest teaching methods. The staff is very excited to show this beautiful new building to community members. Jane and Ronnie Grant at 102 Myers Drive open their beautifully decorated home for refreshments furnished by members of the Columbia Woman's Club. This is a time to relax and visit with friends and neighbors sharing holiday hospitality and making Christmas in Columbia something special. -GEORGE KOLBENSCHLAG This story was posted on 2011-11-30 13:06:29
