News from Lindsey Wilson Athletics

COLUMBIA, KY - Eddy Campbell took possession of the ball near midfield in the 23rd minute and dribbled all the way into the box by himself to boot a goal that would stand as the game-winner as the No. 2 seed Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team overpowered Roberts Wesleyan (Rochester, KY) College 7-0 on Saturday in the first round of the NAIA National Championship at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.

If you had quit following the game at halftime you would have thought the Blue Raiders were in a battle that could have gone either way.

At the break, Lindsey Wilson led just 1-0 after outshooting the Raiders 10-0. Then in the second half the lid popped open for Blue Raiders scoring opportunities.

Six goals in all were scored in the games second half with junior Lebogang Moloto leading the way with back-to-back goals scored in the 60th and 78th minutes.

Freshman Philip Sandgren matched Moloto over the next six minutes, scoring in the 80th and 84th minutes as the goals kept rolling in for Lindsey Wilson. Sandgrens classmate Tom Moody issued the assist on both goals.

Not satisfied with the five-goal advantage, the Blue Raiders struck again with a two-goal 88th minute. Senior Chris Williams scored first on a penalty kick after a Raider foul in the box, followed by a Moody goal that he curled in from about 20 yards out on the left side of the box.

Roberts Wesleyan did manage to fire two shots in the second half as the Blue Raiders finished the game with a 26-2 shot advantage. Just dealing with shots on goal Lindsey Wilson dominated 16-0.

Williams was the games shot leader with six attempts, many coming from flying headers off of corner kicks, while Moloto was close behind with five shots. Both players put four of their attempts on goal.

Donavan Wilson and Hayden Hoebeke shot in the second half for Roberts Wesleyan as its keeper Erik Read closed the game with eight saves, while allowing all seven goals.

Freshman Yuta Nomura went the distance for Lindsey Wilson in goal without having to make a save to record the shutout.

Next: Lindsey Wilson advances to the second round of the NAIA National Championship where it plays at 2:30pmCT on Monday, November 28, 2011, against No. 15 seed Hannibal-LaGrange (Hannibal, MO) University at the Orange Beach Sportsplex, 4385 William Silvers Parkway, Orange Beach, AL.

NAIA Soccer USA: 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY

Just part of the big crowd on hand last night, Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Lindsey Wilson College's gem of a soccer park, the Walter S. Reuling Stadium at 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY, to see the Nation's No. 1 NAIA Men's Soccer Team win a first round match in the National Playoffs. Despite being the most successful sports program ever in Adair County, attendance has never been as high as the players deserve. That may be turning around here, as it has at other basketball/football schools. The University of Louisville soccer team plays before as many as 7,500 fans in the stands. This predominately hometown crowd saw Lindsey Wilson the Blue Raiders explode for seven goals while their visitors from Rochester, NY failed to get on the scoreboard. It was LWC 7, Roberts-Wesley, 0.
