AHA plans Courthouse use during Christmas parade

Adair Heritage Association plans to have Courthouse open for December 3, 2011 Christmas parade. Group shifts aims to partial use of the courthouse while preservation fundraising continues. Group meets this evening at the library. Building will get immediate clean-up, partial use as fundraising continues to roll

By Ellen Zornes, Chair, Adair Heritage Association

The regular Adair Heritage meeting is at 6pmCT, today, Thursday, November 10, at Adair Public Library, 307 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY.

Members and those interested in becoming members are urged to attend the meeting, which will include a discussion on plans for a cleanup and some fundraising ideas! Thanks again. There is no end to what we can accomplish together!!

We greatly appreciate all of you who showed up at the Fiscal Court meeting Tuesday night, November 8, 2011.

It was a great night for Courthouse Preservation. There were lots of gray shirts in support of the courthouse! It made all the difference in the world for them to see that many voters there! For anyone who wasn't able to attend, the court voted unanimously to give up to $25,000 to be used for the rest of this year and next year.Due to funding and the need to begin to use the Courthouse now, plans have changed. We will now concentrate our efforts in cleaning the inside, moving the old books to the County Attorney's former office or somewhere with shelves, getting the clock running, blocking off the tower broken windows that are letting the pigeons in and getting the courtroom area ready to be used now.

We are holding off on the wing removal until we can get enough funding, but the courthouse needs to be in use now.

We plan to have it open before the Christmas parade December 3 and will possibly be having something else in there soon as well. -ELLEN ZORNES
