Robert Brock to bring Mark Twain to Life on Nov. 15, 2011 Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - The author Mark Twain will be brought to life on November 15 at Lindsey Wilson College. And when it comes to the legendary author, Lindsey Wilson College Assistant Professor of Theater Robert Brock has no regard for time - or mortality. Twain will "live" in Brock's one-person show at 7pmCT on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in V. P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY. The event is part of the 2011-12 Lindsey Wilson Cultural Affairs Series. It is free and open to the public. "I'll be doing Twain as an old man, looking back on his famous and varied life," Brock said. Owing money to friends because of several bad investments, Twain embarked on a series of lucrative lecture tours in his later years. Brock said his Nov. 15 characterization of Twain will draw in part on those lectures, along with Twain's writings about himself in journals and published articles. When Twain died in 1910, President William Howard Taft said of the writer: "Mark Twain gave pleasure -- real intellectual enjoyment -- to millions, and his works will continue to give such pleasure to millions yet to come. ... His humor was American, but he was nearly as much appreciated by Englishmen and people of other countries as by his own countrymen. He has made an enduring part of American literature." Brock said his goal is to bring some of that pleasure to modern audiences. Lindsey Wilson College Assistant Professor of Theater Robert Brock will give a one-person performance of Mark Twain at 7pm CT on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in the college's V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY. It is free and open to the public For more information: brockr@lindsey.edu or 270-590-4803. This story was posted on 2011-11-04 14:10:23
