Adair County Band Alumnus Wins the 2A Governors Cup LaRue County wins Class 2A State Marching Band title for first time in school's history - and it with the heritage of the State's Premier Marching Band Program - ADAIR - the Adair County Marching Band, is the son of Robert and Robin Smith of Columbia. Jaime Smith, Adair County High School graduate, the band's director, is the Michael Collins is the Assistant Band Director, John Harris is the Percussion Instructor, and another Adair County alumnus, Natalie Walker, works with Larue County as their guard instructor. It's was an Adair County night at Bowling Green, KY on October 29, 2011. More on wins, including ACHS alum Jeff Hood and the Paul Laurence Dunbar 5A Championship, and Alum Eric Hale with the 3A runner up title + Russell County's great 3rd Place 3A finish, later By Robin Smith An Adair native and band alumnus, Jaime Smith, took the Larue County Marching Band to Semi-Finals at Greenwood High School in Bowling Green Saturday afternoon to compete against 15 of the best 2A bands in the state, some over twice their size, for a spot in Finals Saturday night at L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green. The band performed in the 10th spot and did well but didn't feel that it was their best performance. After Semi-Finals the top 4 bands would be heading on to Finals that night. Larue County was in that 4. They made it along with Washington County, Danville, and last year's champion, Glasgow. They would have another opportunity to perform and hopefully take it to the next level. They would perform 1st in class 2A that night. This time when they left the field they felt they had just marched their best performance ever of their show, "The Starry Night." They had done their best and that's all they had been asked to do. It would be several hours before they would know if it was enough. It was. They brought home the 2A State Title and Governor's Cup. This is the first time, in the history of the school, that Larue County has ever won this award. Michael Collins is the Assistant Band Director, John Harris is the Percussion Instructor, and another Adair County alumnus, Natalie Walker, works with Larue County as their guard instructor. Jaime is the son of Robert and Robin Smith of Columbia. --Robin Smith This story was posted on 2011-11-01 07:53:56
