Cresap throws 5 TDs as Lindsey Wilson beats KY Christian 37-24 Crowd of 1,108 sees second half comeback win at Blue Raider Stadium and Branden Cresap set Lindsey Wilson football school record By Dan White COLUMBIA, KY - Alumni of Lindsey Wilson College back in town for homecoming today, Saturday, October 22, 2011, may not have known that they would be treated to an air show, but Blue Raider quarterback Branden Cresap proved to be quite the pilot on Saturday afternoon at Blue Raider Stadium. Throwing a school-record five touchdown passes for a school-record 423 yards, the freshman signal caller helped Lindsey Wilson beat Kentucky Christian University 37-24 after trailing by four at halftime. With the win the Blue Raiders moved into second place in the Mid-South Conference East Division with a 5-2 overall record and 2-1 league mark. Only Georgetown (KY) College has fared better this season, sitting at a perfect 3-0 in league play. Kentucky Christian drops to 1-2 in the MSC East and 3-5 overall with the loss. Cresap was the highlight of the day for Lindsey Wilson, completing 23-of-40 passes to put up the record-setting numbers. He put four targets over 50-yards receiving, including freshman Chaz Barnes (five catches, 76 yards), freshman Ben Madon (five catches, 59 yards), sophomore Chris Dobbins (three catches, 89 yards) and sophomore Willie Jones (three catches, 88 yards). Jones finished with two touchdown receptions to lead the Blue Raiders, while Dobbins and Madon each finished with one touchdown catch each. Sophomore running back Dakota Brown led Lindsey Wilson on the ground with 82 yards on eight carries. The Knights went through the air even more than Lindsey Wilson, but with less success. Graham Johnston completed 24-of-50 passes for 323 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The quarterback was also his team's leading rusher with 69 yards on eight carries after escaping multiple sack opportunities by the Blue Raider defense. Kentucky Christian had two receivers go over 100 yards as Caleb Cox led all players with 194 yards on 12 catches and Beau Dailey caught seven passes for 102 yards and both touchdowns. It took over eight minutes into the first quarter for either team to score as the Blue Raiders went on top 7-0 on a 76-yard touchdown pass from Cresap to Dobbins running down the sideline. The lead didn't last long as Kentucky Christian took advantage of a Cresap fumble while he avoided a sack inside his own 20 yard line. From there Johnston was able to hit Dailey for an 18-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at seven with the one-play drive. A Knight field goal and then two more highlight-reel touchdown passes by Cresap and Johnston brought the teams into halftime with Kentucky Christian on top 17-13. Coming out of the break after a somewhat stagnant first-half of offense whatever the Blue Raiders talked about in the locker room worked as the team came out clicking on all cylinders. In just its second drive of the half it only took Cresap one play to find Brown on a screen pass that he took 69 yards into the end zone to give Lindsey Wilson the lead for good at 20-17. Later in the third quarter Cresap completed a 35-yard scoring strike to Jones to pull ahead by 10 and finished off the next Blue Raider drive with a 34-yard field goal by Mark Corbett to make the score 30-17. The Knights took another chance at making things interesting at the start of the fourth quarter as Johnston took a keeper three yards for a touchdown that made it a one possession game. But just as quickly as the Knights made it a game, Lindsey Wilson ripped away their momentum with another touchdown pass to Madon on the very next drive, ending the scoring in the game and ultimately sending the Blue Raiders towards the homecoming win. While the game was an offensive fest with Lindsey Wilson outgaining the Knights 423-323 in total yards, there were still plenty of notable defensive showings for both teams. Sophomore Sam Wilson led the Lindsey Wilson pack with seven tackles including 1.5 for a loss and his classmate Aaron Taylor came up with a timely interception and two tackles. Kentucky Christian's Dylan Romero finished with a game-high 11 tackles and Clyde Manuel backed him up with seven. The Knights' Justin Ault made the best attempt at slowing Cresap with an interception and two broken up passes. -DAN WHITE.
