LWC Volleyball finishes off regular-season sweep of Georgetown By Dan White COLUMBIA, KY - Kirsten King finished off a match-high 13 kills and Taylor Hayne backed her up with 11 to help the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team knock off visiting Georgetown (KY) College 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders finished with a .204 hitting percentage compared to .255 for the Tigers, but it wasn't the offense alone that helped them win their 18th straight match and second of the season against Georgetown after beating it 3-1 in September. Led by freshman Sierra Wilkerson's four blocks and senior Rachael Anderson's 19 digs, Lindsey Wilson (25-1, 9-1 MSC) played nearly flawless defense to limit the Tigers' attack. It also didn't hurt that Georgetown (15-13, 7-3 MSC) finished without a service ace, but committed nine errors on serve. "It really was a luxury in that first set, we had some pregame jitters with the big crowd and we were playing a good team, so any opportunity where they can give us points, we'll happily take," said Cavins. For the match, the Blue Raiders led the game in digs 54-45 and blocks 10-9. Georgetown was led offensively by freshman Rachel Eubanks who was the only Tiger to reach double figures in kills with 10. Her classmate Caraline Maher matched Wilkerson for the match high in blocks with four, while junior Lindsey Wise and senior Kelsey Luckett each finished with 10 digs. Lindsey Wilson got a lift early on from two unexpected sources. One being the first-set service woes by the Tigers which gave the Blue Raiders a head start towards a win and, on the contrary, junior Angela Mlachnik gave Lindsey Wilson a boost with three aces after tallying just 11 all season heading into the match. Sophomore Alex Kibsey was another unsung hero of the match, contributing two service aces, seven digs and two kills to the win. Other high attackers for the Blue Raiders were Wilkerson with six kills and freshman Sarah Anderson with five kills and two blocks. King and Hayne are no strangers to big performances against Georgetown as the freshmen duo came up big in the win on the road earlier this season with 14 kills each. "The girls told us early on that we need to beat Georgetown this season because they are one of our biggest rivals," said King.
