Tree topping is not an acceptable practice, writer says Says tree will look just plain retarded. Says the tree was treated as though it were an overgrown crype murtyl By David Chamberlain Would you be willing to publish a follow up article that explains how topping trees is not an acceptable method used by real arborist? As long as tree topping continues to be promoted as though its an acceptable horticultural practice this ignorance will continue. Professionally trained arborists can properly perform services such as crown reductions, raising the canopy and other acceptable pruning methods. Just the fact that some outfit may have a bucket truck, pole saw and a couple of guys does not make them true professionals. What was done to this historic maple tree will result in the tree growing in an unnatural state, promote the introduction of disease, fungus, insect damage and blight that will shorten this tree's life span. Plus the fact that it's going to look plain retarded from now on. They treated it as though it's an overgrown crype murtyl, which by the way, isn't even a proper way to trim them either. -DAVID CHAMBERLAIN.
