Sugar Mama's family more than doubles just in over 72 hours

She gave birth to three on Saturday. Then, last night, Tuesday, Johnny Morgan called with the news that someone had tied four newborn kittens in a bag and had thrown them in gas station dumpster. Sugar Mama caringly accepted them into her little family. She cleaned them and fed them and, Sandy Coomer says, looks like they will be ready for adoption in about six weeks.

By Sandy Coomer

Saturday, October 15, 2011, our cat Sugar Mama had three kittens.

It was her first litter.

Last night Johnny (Morgan) called me from the Gate parking lot and said someone had tied and dumped four newborn kittens in the dumpster.

I told him we would do something, so he brought them home as usual.

When he got home they were wet and screaming. We put the kittens in front of Sugar Mama and she cleaned and fed all four of them.

Throughout the night she moved them one by one to her secret hiding place. (She thinks it is secret anyways.)

So she gave birth to three and ended up with seven.

And to the person that left them there in the dumpster, tied in that bag: I hope you had nightmares of mad crazy cats last night. How could you do something so horrible. I'm sure you could have found something to do with them. But at least, you didn't leave them on the side of the road or drop them in a creek somewhere like some people would do.

So to all you Cat Lovers out there: There will be a post in about six weeks to give away kittens. It will read "Sugar Mama's babies are ready. So please respond. -Sandy Coomer

Sugar Mama and her blended family

2011-10-19 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Sandy Coomer.
It's hard to believe, looking at this family, that just a few hours ago, four babies had been found in a bag discarded in a dumpster at a local filling station. Fortunately, Johnny Morgan found them, got them to Sandy Coomer, whose cat, Sugar Mama, had just given birth to three of her own kittens and accepted the orphans as her own. When they are old enough for Forever Homes, Sandy Coomer, author of the accompanying story, says the the kittens will be posted for adoption in about six weeks.
