Maury Lewis, Garden Club, comments on tree topping at Courthouse Maury Lewis writes: Why do they cut the tops out of trees? Would a professional Arborist, please tell me. I have watched a lot of shows on trimming trees by professional Arborist and not one time have they cut the tops out of trees. They go in and prune the tree by removing certain branches, but they never just whack the top of the tree off.
