Birds of KY: Tony Harvey says feed hummers another month

A good rule of thumb is to keep your feeders up until the first hard frost.

By Tony Harvey

It is best to leave hummingbird feeders up, in my opinion, until at least the end of September.

We will have many hummers migrating and passing through our state on their way south. While one would like to think that the first real cool spell that we have it's time to bring the feeders in until spring returns.

This could be true for most states to our north and east, but we could still have plenty of days in the low to mid 80's to come our way.

A good rule of thumb is to keep your feeders up until the first hard frost.

I hope this helps answer your question, and glad to see the sincere interest for the hummers.

Regards,
-Tony Harveyp.s. We do miss living in fine community of Gadberry, albeit the folks here in Absher have made us feel quite welcome. Not picking sides, I'm just saying. - Tony Harvey
